When my son was learning to read, we played a game on paper. Starting with one word, each of us would change one letter, making a new word - starting with CAR, changing the R to a T makes the word CAT. The next player could change the C to an H to make HAT, and so on. NextWord is this game on the Palm. Highly configurable to accomodate players of varying ability, it includes a dictionary of 2, 3, 4, and 5 letter words, categorized for difficulty and marked to avoid 'uncomfortable' starting words. (games won't start with 'hate' or 'stupid' for example) Players naturally sound out words and change sounds to find new words, improving their reading, spelling, and vocabulary...
